Stephanie Naumoska - Too thin to be in a beauty pageant?

Jetaime Published in fitnessBeauty by Jetaime Print PDF

You've probably all heard about Stephanie, she's the 19 year old Australian who has caused a stir by being a contestant in Miss Universe and being what many would describe as 'underweight', 'painfully thin' or even 'anoroexic'.

She's 5 foot 11 and apparently weighs 49 kilos - although she says her weight gets up to as much as 52 kilos, her BMI is obviously going to be in the unhealthy region?

Does skinny mean unhealthy?
Should she have been allowed to enter a beauty pageant if there are concerns over her health?
What are your thoughts?

There are some people who are naturally thin but i think that this is FRIGEN SCARY THIN! Girls who are this thin are not really that attractive, who wants to look at a walking skeleton? What type of message is some one this thin sending to girls around the world anyway? starve yourself to success? Women are supposed to look curvy and luscious it is what make them attractive. Don't get me wrong Miss Skeleton does have a pretty face, there is no doubt about that but I'm sure she would look more human and be even more attractive if she put on a little weight. i agree with FashioNZ_Ed, Mags, model agencies etc should have a clear ant-anorexia policy so that all the stakeholders know that if you ain't healthy, you ain't working - full stop. and while it may look good on the runway, how many people are actually that thin? will the product still look good on a healthy girl?

I personally don't think she should be in the beauty pageant.

I don't support beauty pageants themselves any more. I think we have progressed beyond displaying women in that way, and that we should reward women and men for more valuable things.

Why does she even want to win the title? Surely we should use our assets for the purpose to which they are best suited? That skinny frame probably looks great on the runway or in some stylised photography, but why does she think/has she been encouraged to think it would be good to put it in a bathing suit competition!?

I am sorry but that is just WRONG what sort of STUPID message are the people that are hiring these girls sending - THE WRONG ONE thats what! I am sick and tired of seeing these young girls walking catwalks they are disgusting examples of how the female form should look! This is not how woman are suppose to look and if you think it is you need to see a psychiatrist!!! or some kind of doctor. As for the mothers of these girls that either encourage othem or do nothing about saying that it is wrong to look like this you should re think ever becoming a mother again. Fashion Industry people need to seriously evaluate thier thinking I know there are a few of them that think its gross but continue to hire skinny girls so come stand up and say I want my clothes to look good on real woman and a size 0 and below does not look good in anything!
