Our trusted team of Product Panellists have put AVEENO® POSITIVELY
RADIANT® & AVEENO® CONTINUOUS PROTECTION Sun Care to the test. Read
what they have to say below.
Written by Lydia, on 26-10-2010 20:02 Both products have good rub in and have a decent SPF rating for NZ, they also do not leave traces of white/colour on the skin and are not too thick or runny. Unfortunately I did not particularly like the fragrance used, perhaps something lighter and less strong would work better.
Written by Jill, on 26-10-2010 20:40 I have had the pleasure of using AVEENO® CONTINUOUS PROTECTION Sun Care. Due to it having a 55spf it has been very usful in my job as a 'Postie'. I can be out in the weather anything from 3-5 hours a day and have found that only one application has been required with no sunburn. It moisturises the skin by being absorbed and not leaving a film on the the skin. I will certainly continue to use this product.
I also used the tinted moisturiser which on first application I did not like. I have been using a powder foundation so returning to a cream I did not like the look or feel on first applying. I have continued to use because of the SPF factor and have found that like the AVEENO® CONTINUOUS PROTECTION Sun Care cream it is absorbed into the skin. I will continue to use but I think the fair to light shade to be a little pale for my summer colour and so has a more of a make up look.
Written by Sue, on 01-11-2010 11:39 Love this product. The tinted moisturiser is very easy to apply, gives great cover and has the added bonus of sun protection. The sun block has a great SPF factor and is lovely to apply. Both products have an interesting but acceptable smell.
Written by Joy, on 01-11-2010 14:15 I loved the tinted moisturiser! The best thing about it is the light-reflecting minerals which made my skin look glowing and healthy, but not too shiny at the same time. I liked how it had a decent SPF of 30 so that I didn't have to put on another sunscreen on my face. The medium shade was perfect for me, and gave me a summery bronzed look which I really liked. I would use this as a substitute over foundation during the summer. The only thing that I didn't like (but didn't bother me too much) was the smell. It had a slight weird scent which might have been the soy? But I do prefer it to be natural/unscented than fragranced.
The sunscreen did its job of not getting me sunburnt which is always good. I liked how it didn't make my skin all white when I had it on like cheap sunscreens. It is definitely non-greasy compared to many other sunscreens, but still had a slight tinge of greasiness I could feel, especially when I had clothing over the skin. It had a smell that was different to other sunblocks but I didn't particularly like it. Still pretty good overall :)
Written by Sophie, on 01-11-2010 21:09 I've never used a tinted moisturiser regularly before. I have very sensitive skin so many moisturisers are too harsh for me, and I also have very fair skin so most tinted moisturisers and foundations are too thick and dark. I'm pleased to say that the Aveeno Tinted Moisturiser suited me beautifully, and felt great on my skin. It evened out my skin tone with just a small hint of colour. It also lasted fairly well throughout the day, though it was mostly gone in the evening.
Being fair-skinned also means that a good sunscreen is important to me. Unfortunately I didn't get much chance to try the Aveeno SPF 55 sunscreen in full sun, but it had a nice feel and smell, absorbed easily and wasn't greasy.
Written by Helen, on 02-11-2010 08:07 The face cream was amazing... I have used tinted moisturisers in the past and not been happy with the coverage, but this was awesome. Much lighter than a foundation but still gave coverage and evens out skin tone. Plus doesn't turn greasy like a lot do that contain sunscreen.
Written by Yvonne, on 02-11-2010 22:30 Finding sun in NZ before February is pretty hard, but this afternoon I managed to find a slice and so had a chance to try out the Aveeno Continuous Protection Sunblock Lotion. Firstly SPF 55! Awesome! I am a burn easy kind of girl, and UV protection is very important to me. I liked how it wasn't greasy at all, but it also wasn't too watery. And you know how you can always feel you're wearing sunblock? Well you still can, but it isn't as bad. You don't feel sticky and gross and it doesn't smell bad. So all in all, huge fan.
The Tinted Moisturizer didn't quite blow me away. I loved the SPF30 factor (see above) and I was impressed at how well it matched my deathly pale skin tone. However, I found it left a funny shiny sheen, was this the radiance they were talking about? It didn't feel as comfortable as I had expected. I suppose that's the price you pay for protection. But again, good product, definitely one of the better tinted moisturizers out there.
Written by Debbie, on 03-11-2010 07:35 Sunscreen Our wonderfully sunny Labour weekend was an ideal opportunity to test run the new Aveeno sunscreen. Being fair and freckled (and with a childhood filled with sunburn) I'm about as paranoid as it gets when comes to burn risk, particularly on my nose. I've been using a most excellent sunscreen (are we allowed to say for comparison? - It's the Cancer Society one) for some time and was hesitant about tempting fate with a different product. So I'm delighted to say the Aveeno sunscreen measured up. No burning on my face (admittedly, I was also wearing a hat) and my arms didn't get burnt either. I did however notice a fine white powder on my arms some time after the sunscreen had dried but I'm not sure if that was the sunscreen, or the fine dust that was floating around at the time and stuck to the sunscreen. If it was the sunscreen that's not an effect I'm particularly sold on but I’ve not had an opportunity to test it again yet. So 4/5 for this one.
Tinted moisturizer (fair to light) What a lovely product, compares most favourably to the un-tinted Aveeno moisturizer. Good coverage on my fair/freckled skin and it lasted all day too. A stronger tint than another product I’ve tried before-you could almost call it a moisturizing foundation. I'll definitely buy more when this runs out. 5/5
Written by Laura, on 03-11-2010 13:14 I got the Medium tint for Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer and the colour was a nice match. You didn't need much of the product to do your whole face which was good as the bottle will last a long time. However I found it took a while to rub in, and it seemed to kind of flake off again after rubbing it for a while - which you had to do to get it all rubbed in. I have really sensitive skin and had no reactions to it which is great! Overall I liked it, just the flaking and taking so long to rub in were the down sides to it, but that may just be my skin type.
The Continuous Protection Sunblock Lotion SPF 55 was really great. I find it really hard to find a good sunblock that will work with my sensitive skin, but I had no reaction to this one. It did take a while to rub in, and if you didn't completely rub it in you kind of got that white sheen you can sometimes get with sunblock. However my skin felt great after rubbing it in, it wasn't greasy or anything. Also, if you hadn't rubbed it in 100% I found that after going for a run and being sweaty the whiteness kinda showed up a bit more. But other than taking a while to rub in completely it was really great, not one bit of sun burn!!
Written by Natalie, on 03-11-2010 17:08 Aveeno Continuous Protection Sunblock SPF 55: 4/5 stars This is a really nice sunblock and although it does have that 'sunblock - type scent it isn't as bad as some of the sunblocks available - I would have given it 5 stars otherwise. It doesn't leave your skin greasy or shiny which is nice and absorbs very well. I have fairly dry skin and found that if I use a body lotion first it is a bit more comfortable.I would definitely recommend this and would buy this again.
Aveeno Active Naturals Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturiser - Fair to Light SPF 30: 1/5 stars I was looking forward to trying this product as anything that does double duty is great in my book, but unfortunately this tinted moisturiser with sunscreen didn't agree with my very sensitive skin. On initial application I loved the coverage and the colour was a good match too but after about an hour of wear my skin started to burn and itch like crazy. I am pretty sure that it was one or a combination of the sunscreen ingredients that my skin had the issue with and I'm thinking that if they were not in there then my skin may have had a different result. It was a real shame that this happened as I had very high hopes for a tinted moisturiser. I would recommend if you have sunscreen sensitivity issues to try this on a small part of your skin first just in case a reaction happens.
Written by Anneke, on 03-11-2010 22:00 Sunblock: I love that the SPF is so high, as well as having protection against both UVA and UVB rays - that means if I'm outdoors for a long period during the day I can be confident that my skin won't get damaged. The smell is pleasant and the texture is not greasy, so I can wear it around town without looking shiny. And the fact that it's waterproof is great - I can go swimming or wear it when I go walking on hot summer days because it won't run off if I sweat. I'm not sure what the RRP is but if it's comparable with other sunscreens I'd definitely continue to use it.
Tinted Moisturiser: This is a 3 in 1 product! Sunscreen, moisturiser and a bit of colour. I don't like wearing heavy foundation during the day, so a tinted moisturiser suits my needs well, especially if it contains sunscreen. It's a great size for keeping in your bag too. But make sure you test the colour before you buy it!
Written by Rachel, on 04-11-2010 14:36 The sunscreen went on easily and wasn't greasy, and has a light fresh scent. I would happily use this as an everyday sunscreen although a spray on one would be even better as it is easier to reach hard to get places.
I have enjoyed the tinted moisturiser, it has a very natural colour(I chose the light one), it covers evenly and gives a light evening to skin tone. Unfortunately as I have very sensitive skin I have noticed an increase in small pimples around the nose, which I tend to get with most tinted products/powders/foundations. I will probably continue use but not everyday as I do really like the effect I get from it.
AVEENO® CONTINUOUS PROTECTION Sun Care Written by bronwyn mcgee, on 10-11-2010 08:22 i have just started using this product over the past couple of weekends and have found it great. It wasn't too thick or greasy and sunk into my skin quite quickly. the smell wasn't too overpowering either. I found it gave good sun protection so will use it on a reguslar basis. A lighter spray on one for the face would be good.
Written by Kat, on 11-11-2010 10:42 Unfortunately I have to give both the tinted moisturiser and the sunscreen 2 thumbs down. I didn't like the tinted moisturiser because it has the thick feel of foundation to it with a greasy after feel. The sunscreen was a different matter entirely - it left white streaks on my skin and after using it for a couple of days my skin broke out in an angry, itchy red rash that took almost 2 weeks to disappear. My son also reacted to the sunscreen with a similar rash as well as red, swollen, watery eyes. Sorry Aveeno...this product test was an epic fail!!
Written by Valerie, on 13-11-2010 00:06 I received the fair-tint moisturiser. It rubs onto my face pretty well, and what I really like about it is that I can just use 1 cream to give my face a fresh make-up look, be moisturized and also be protected from the sun's UV rays! I really do enjoy using this Aveeno Positively Radiant cream!
Written by Lucy, on 11-11-2010 12:08 Sunscreen - I really love the sunblock! :) Very important to be, especially being a very pale person living in New Zealand. Though it does have a sunblock-y smell, unlike other Aveeno products that I have tried which are unperfumed. The sunblock is not at all greasy or oily, and doesn't leave much of a residue. It seems to last a good length of time and doesn't make my skin look bright white (I could even use it on my face). Nice packaging too, I would definitely recommend/buy, though I do prefer the Neutrogena AgeSheild.
Tinted Moisturiser - Is nicely packaged and typical unperfumed Aveeno. Unfortunately, used by itself, the fair/light shade is noticeably too dark for my skin (very pale, lightest shade Maybelline). I can mix it with some of my usual moisturiser to make it lighter, and that looks OK, but obviously has less coverage that using by itself, just makes my skin look a bit more radiant. I'd just stick to my usual Ultra Calm or Positively Radiant moisturiser instead of purchasing this one.
Written by Kerry, on 13-11-2010 00:00 Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturiser SPF 30
This product has surprisingly good coverage for a tinted moisturiser - I covered flaws reasonably well, but you could still see my skin underneath - I was very impressed. It also feels wonderful on the skin and has a lovely glowy finish. However, the smell is not very pleasant (although this disappears after application) and it is not particularly moisturising. I mixed it in with my regular moisturiser/sunscreen to help with this.
Aveeno Continuous Protection Sun Care
I LOVED this sunscreen. It smells great (but not particularly strongly) and truly is not at all greasy. It has quite a gluggy feel, but once rubbed in is matte and almost undetectable on the skin. I would definitely buy this again.
Aveeno Written by Selina Suter, on 18-11-2010 14:11 Have trialled the product for a few weeks now with the tinted moisturiser. Had received great reviews from my co-workers who use other Aveeno products, so was really amped up.
I love the moisturiser, its a great tone for my skin and covered up my blemishes. I am a big moisturiser user anyway, so this will proabbly replace my old favourite. At least with the tint you know you have covered all areas.
Haven't had the chance to use the sunscreen yet, but will definately in the next couple of weeks.
