Make a Healthy Meal Fast & Easy

lunchbox-article.jpgLives are busy and hectic nowadays and by days end, parents no longer have the energy to slave over a hot stove, but this doesn't mean our families won't still get a good healthy meal. We just have to know how to shop and prepare for those busy days…


Intro
Meal times can be hectic. At the end of a busy day, the last thing a tired parent wants to do is search through the fridge and cupboard looking for that “healthy” meal to serve the family. All we want to do is find something fast to get on the table and get the day over with! It doesn't have to be that way though. There are many great meals that can be made in just a few minutes that are healthy alternatives to grabbing fast food, or throwing on a pot of macoroni and cheese.

Plan, plan, plan
One way to ensure that we aren't taking the fast food route or the junk food route is to plan our meals out in advance. Ensure that we pick up some quick and easy meals for those days we just won't have time to cook. This can be meals that are just thrown in the crock pot to stew all day while we are at work or a meal in a bag.

The food producers have changed meal making for the better. It is now completely normal to go through the grocery aisles and be bombarded with great meal ideas that are easy to make and healthy too.

For the odd meal night it is also okay to grab a microwavable meal. Gone are the days of cardboard flavoured food that barely resembles itself. We now have a choice of pasta's just like the Italians make them, Chinese food they way it is meant to taste and everything in between.

There is also the option of frozen platters that require no preparation, other than preheating the oven. This can mean a great home cooked meal that is just thrown in the oven to cook while we run around doing homework and housework with the children.

If nothing else, we can also make sure to keep fresh fruits and vegetables on hand so that on those hot busy days, we can even just grab a quick fruit and be on our ways.

As a last resort, we can also ensure to keep on hand frozen fruits and vegetables to whip up a quick meal time smoothie sure to please hot and tired kids and not drive mums mad being in the kitchen for hours on end.

Eating healthy as a family doesn't have to be hard and with the food options available on the market today, there really is no excuse for eating poorly. So many healthy foods are now available that require no preparation time and minimal cook time that will have the family eating well in just moments and our stress levels reduced by not having to stress over dinner.
