Lunch box ideas for kids

ImageThe little terrors race tear up the playground at lunch, so they need fuel for their energy. But fuelling their energy levels with sugar is not the way to go. Here are some suggestions for a healthy lunch box for your child.

 

Lunchboxes should include:

  • At least two pieces of fruit (fresh, dried or tinned)
  • A minimum of one serve of dairy (yoghurt, milk, cheese)
  • At least 3-4 serves of carbohydrate rich foods (bread, pasta, grain and cereal bars)

 

Here are some tasty ideas to keep your child happy and healthy...

Lunch Ideas
English breakfast muffin with tomato, cheese and low-fat ham
Rice cakes with peanut butter
Cold pasta salad (such as orzo) with vegetables and chicken bacon or lean ham
Chicken, tomato and avocado wholegrain sandwich with a smear of light mayo

Snacks
Crackers with spread (cheese or hummus)
Yoghurt (can be frozen overnight)
Mini sticks of celery and baby carrots with cheese spread or dip
Bag of trail mix
Hard boiled egg
Pikelets with cheese
Fruit

Drinks
Water or tetra-packs of milk can be frozen the night before school (they keep the lunch cool and will stay fresh)
Fruit or vegetable juice
