Sit back, relax, grab a glass of wine and a bowl of popcorn! In addition to having a wedding photographer the other great way to capture the memories of your big day is a wedding video production...
Each couple is unique and your wedding day is a reflection of your relationship with your family and friends. A wedding video production should capture the special moments shared and be a timeless, entertaining memory that never gets a chance to gather dust.
So much time, energy and resources goes in to creating the perfect look and feel for your wedding day, something that a home video will simply never reflect or do justice.
With a professional team capturing all the moments of your day - many that you miss in the flurry of the day - with a video you can go back and reflect on this record of the day, you may see familiar faces you haven’t spoken to in a long time or it may have captured special moments of someone who has since passed.
Times have certainly changed and there are some fantastic companies who deliver the most incredible memories of your wedding day through video production. You can cover everything from the start of the day, getting ready through to your first dance as husband and wife.
Don’t look back and regret.
As a Wedding Planner I often get asked by couples if they need a video of their big day. If budget allows my answer is always a resounding 'yes'. I chat to couples quite often who decided not to film their wedding and regret this decision. Trusting a family member or friend to film your wedding often results in a product that leaves many couples disappointed.
Snapshot
Do your homework and research your options. Most videographers offer a range of different packages and you can pick one based on what you would like covered for the day and choose one that will work with your budget. If you factor this in at the start of your planning then you won’t be scrimping and saving to try and get the money together at the last minute.
Wedding videos can be fun, stylish and engaging. They capture the emotion and imagery of your day and give you a 10-15 minute snapshot of all your wedding day highlights. You can select your favourite songs to overlay and create a production that will be enjoyable to watch.
Options
Gone are the days of boring wedding videos! My wedding video that was shot only six years ago is incredibly cheesy, the classic images of baby shots through to who you are at the time of the wedding, speeches that seem to go on forever and cheesy love songs that would put anyone to sleep. With technology moving forward and some clever industry specialists the result is now a product that offers a degree of skill, creativity, knowledge and experience.
Tips for selecting your Videographer
In last month's article I mentioned that word of mouth is one of the best ways to get recommendations for wedding suppliers and this is no different. Chat to friends who had a video and ask to see a copy.
As with many things these days, price is always a factor to consider. You don’t necessarily have to pay a fortune for quality but price is often a reflection of the end result you can expect.
A videographer can range from $900 up to $6000. Clearly this is a big variation and budget will play a big part in your decision. Therefore decide what will fit in to your budget and start chatting to the professionals about what your options may be:
- The length of your video - the more you want included, the higher the price.
- Experience - Videographers with good reputations and with a great deal of experience tend to be more expensive and can get booked out two years in advance! So don’t leave this selection to the last minute!
- Cameramen – Selecting one or two cameramen will also influence your price.
My Advice
It is important to find a videographer who fits with your style and like selecting a photographer many of the same key points apply. Make sure you check out their wedding demos and ask for testimonials from previous clients.
When viewing demos look at the quality of the video:
 Are there clear images?
 Do the moving images move with the flow of the music?
 What is the sound like – is it crisp and clear?
 Does the video have a sense of style and sophistication?
My favourite Wedding Production Specialist is Lavender Weddings. John & Olivia offer contemporary solutions that have been known to bring a tear to even a man’s eye. (Not that he would admit it of course!)
