Wedding Planner Weds- An Update

wedding-blog.jpgI have just finished writing an article on Old Time Love, Retro Vintage Chic and taking inspiration from the 1920’s and 30’s.  Reflecting on my own wedding style, it has occurred to me that our wedding has become an eclectic vintage mix with inspiration coming from a number of sources.

It hasn’t been about copying style from the ages but taking the bits and pieces that inspired me to create my own vintage style.  I’ve become aware through my own planning how important the early phase is in taking the time to think about what the overall theme should be.  How do you incorporate both your personalities and determine a theme, colour palette and style for such an important day?

I think the excitement of it all and wanting to tick off some boxes early may have led me astray.  Where I started with my theme is not where I ended up, and I do wish I had taken more time to consider this.  To give you an idea…………I am inspired by the big pohutukawa tree outside our window and frequently daydream as I watch the birds and sun hit the branches.  Such personal inspiration could have been used in the design of our invitations to add a personal touch however got overlooked with the excitement of looking in wedding magazines.

We are now three months until the big day and I have taken some time to review my planning journey so far. Venue is booked, ceremony location confirmed, dress started, invitations complete and ready to send out.  Here are some of the details of our big day.

My Wedding Style
My measurements have been taken and I am so excited to see my dress.  The thought of a diet and fitness routine have been nagging away in the background, a voice I should probably listen to soon.  I have chosen a stunning vintage gown which I am having made for me.  A fitting bodice, v-neck, chiffon sleeves, soft A-line silhouette of chiffon over satin with a sweeping train.  Adding detail to the design with vintage lace and my Grandmother’s brooch will add a personal and sentimental touch.  I am yet to find the perfect accessories to match.

Wedding Stationery
Wedding stationery options are endless, with a large array of suppliers and styles available.  We have chosen to work with Cocoa Berry - Charlotte and Lucy were amazing.  You start by selecting an off the rack design, then they personalise the invites by adding extra detail and a family of birds.  The colours we selected were teal, pale green and dusky pink, printed on a cream pearlised paper with matching envelopes.  This will set the tone and mood for the rest of our wedding style.

Vintage Style
It has been a challenge coming up with styling for the reception that is fresh and different, setting a tone that is not a mirror image of what I have seen with many of my wedding couples.  I am lucky to have Sue from Flowers at Pink (http://www.flowersatpink.co.nz/) on my wedding team.  With the design of my dress and the bridesmaids’ dresses we needed some creative ideas for flowers that would complement the styles.  We have settled on a blend of peonies, lisianthus, hydrangeas and antique roses in shades of cream, pale green, dusky pink, burgundy and hints of purple - they will be stunning.  The table layout will be a horseshoe shape so all our nearest and dearest can sit together.  We are using candelabras, banks of flowers and textured tablecloths, the room will be classic, elegant and stylish.

Beauty
I imagined long blonde locks swept in to a side chignon (low swept curls set to the side) which will be accompanied by a head piece and delicate netting that will lightly cover my face.  Whilst I am doing all manner of things to make my hair grow long enough I will likely need to add in some hair extensions which my hairdresser has said are easy to clip in to add length and volume.  Strong shimmering colours for my eyes with lashings of mascara and natural lips.

Working with our celebrant on the ceremony and deciding on our cake are my next big tasks to tick off, so my research into cake designs and readings for the ceremony continue.
