It’s not always easy to find time for romance, which is why occasions like Valentine’s Day can strike fear into the hearts of those of us who are not imaginative, or who just want to surprise their man with something new. Here are ten surefire ways to impress your man from the cheap and cheerful, to the extravagant. Enjoy…

New Zealand Post’s Send a Card service lets you create, print and post your own personalised, high quality postcards and greeting cards quickly and easily from the comfort of your own home. It's so easy to do - simply upload a photo or choose from a range of Valentine’s Day images and professionally-designed templates available on the Send a Card website. Love scrapbook
Buy a cool blank paged journal and fill it with tokens of your love – great snapshots of the two of you together, cards and letters that you have written each other… Of course as you can keep adding to it over time, it’s the gift that keeps on giving! Alternatively, entitle your journal ‘Reasons I Love You’ and write all the different reasons in on the different pages, interspersed with cute pictures of good times you have shared.
Couples pamper
Who isn't stressed out these days and in need of a good pampering? Share the luxury together by booking a trip to a day spa and enjoying indulgent treatments together. Get a massage, a facial, a hot tub… Then after you are feeling totally relaxed and zen, kick back for a great meal together. Of course you will be too relaxed to cook or do dishes, so make sure you book a restaurant somewhere nice!
Box of love
Decorate a shoe-box with red wrapping paper and fill it with cheap and cheerful quirky gifts (or expensive ones if you feel like it!). Chocolates, love notes, miniature bottles of their favourite spirits, framed photos of you and your lover… whatever you like.
Strip Tease
For the more daring, prepare yourself a sexy outfit, find a tune that you love to dance erotically to and put some champagne on ice. When he walks in the door, have the lights dimmed, ask him to sit down on the couch, hit play on the stereo and give him a private dance.
The way to a man’s heart…
…is through his stomach. So why not take him to his favourite restaurant, or cook him his favourite meal at home. If you go to the restaurant, arrange for a red rose to be on the table for him, or for the waiter to pass on a special letter / card of your love for him. If you do the home option, set the table up with candles, flowers and soft music and lighting for a truly romantic feel. Alternatively, bring him a romantic breakfast in bed – a delicious breakfast a tray with a single red rose is sure to impress. If it's a nice day, perhaps pack a picnic with a smorgasboard of delicious bite sized treats and lie back and enjoy kicking back in the sun together.
Art for love’s sake
You’ll need a large digital image for this project. Find a fantastic picture of you and your sweetheart together. Get it printed to canvas and then hang it on the wall for him to see. If you want to get really crafty you could consider photoshopping the image first to put a special effect over it or to write a message on the image before it gets set to canvas.
Love cheque-book
All this requires is a basic document programme – 'Microsoft Word' will do just fine, and a printer. Think of some things your partner would love to be treated to from you– a foot rub, a massage, a home-baked cake or cookies, a non-interrupted sports game viewing etc etc. Type it out, print it out and stick the pages together in a booklet for him to choose his gifts as he pleases.
Boxer surprise
Buy him a cheap pair of white boxers or briefs if he prefers. Go to a craft store such as Spotlight and purchase some fabric paint, then go wild writing messages, drawing pictures and decorating them to your heart’s content.
Hidden notes
Purchase a whole bunch of cheap love postcards or even simple post it notes would do. Write loving messages on them for your partner, then hide them in places you know he will find them – in his box of cereal, on the bottle of milk, on the inside of the shower, beside the bed – anywhere you can think of! He’ll love the fact that he gets a new little surprise each time he stumbles across a new note.
Musical momento
Do you share a love for music – and have heaps of a long list of songs that have soecial memories attached to them? Then why not make a compilation CD of tunes that remind you of good times together. It doesn’t have to all be one genre of music, the element of surprise will make it a great mix. Perhaps you met at a Guns 'n' Roses concert and then later bonded over soulful house? Whatever the genre, have fun with it by making a homemade CD cover for the case by printing out a picture of the two of you and putting the track listing on the back.
