How-to: Create a Romantic Dinner for Two

romantic-dinner.jpgIs your relationship lacking a little in the romance department? A romantic dinner for two is a sure-fire way to rekindle the spark.  Follow our tips to create the perfect romantic evening in for you and your partner.

Set the mood
Candles, candles, candles!  Yes, the candlelit dinner for two may seem like a bit of a cliché, but it really does get you in the mood for romance.  I personally think candlesticks look a little old-fashioned and formal, so why not turn off the lights and place some tea-light candles in holders on the table, and perhaps around the room to get that dimly-lit, romantic glow.  Put on a little soft music – not too loud though, as it will be intrusive.

The table
Another key way to up the romance is to really make an effort to create a special environment, far removed from the every day dinner table setting you usually sit down to with your partner. So use your best silverware (or mum’s if you’re like me and don’t own your own set!), crockery and wine glasses.  And now we’re really getting fancy: also use a table cloth, and if you can, put fresh flowers in the middle of the table, to really make your partner feel special.

The wine
If you can, a way to really impress your partner is to create a menu and match the wines to each course.  It’s amazing how matching the right wine with a course can really influence the taste of both the wine and food on your palate.  Again, it’s another way to show your partner you have gone the extra mile.  Check out some more tips for wine and food matching here.  But if you don’t have the time or resources to do this, then your fail safe drink for a romantic dinner is red wine.  Red wine is known to boost the libido, as it contains resveratrol, an antioxidant that helps to boost blood flow and improve circulation to, ahem, certain areas...

The food
So, what to cook?  The food will obviously be the main event (before the MAIN event), so why not try some libido-enhancing foods?  Our friends at sexgear.co.nz have put together a list of the top ten foods to get you in the mood.  Perhaps you can try the old favourites, oysters, and definitely finish off with a chocolate dessert.  Foodlovers.co.nz is a great source of inspiration and recipes.  Why not try this oyster recipe for your entre and this pasta dish with salmon and asparagus (another mood enhancer) for your main.   And these chocolate truffles for dessert would go down a treat.

Finally...your outfit
Make sure you dress to impress.  Wear a sexy cocktail dress, and of course, heels.  In terms of your makeup, a hot red lip is always a sexy look.  Try our tips to make sure your lipstick has staying powder, but if necessary, sneak away for touch ups every now and then.  And don’t forget your signature scent as a finishing touch.

So there you have it – our guide to creating the perfect romantic dinner for two at home.  Follow these simple steps and you will have him eating out of the palm of your hand in no time!
