ImageLiving in a rental place can sometimes feel a little like living insomeone else's house. Making it our own with a few touches helps usfeel more settled and at home. Decorating a rental property can be difficult. Due to the simple fact it is not your own property you are limited in your abilities to truly create the home you envision. However, there are ways we can decorate rental places to make them a little more a homely.

Start with the little things

Wallpaper borders are a great addition to any room without leaving a permanent piece behind. These great new borders can be placed and removed when you move on. No need to paint and lose your deposit. A simple peel off and wipe down and you can move the border to your new residence and make even your new place feel like home.

Use area rugs to help make the flooring a little more welcoming. Area rugs can be mixed and matched to suit our style and house. They are great additions to any room and can help make the whole house a little more inviting.

Add house plants to make the rental space warmer. Plants can help us feel more comfortable in our surroundings and we can take them with us when we leave. Plants add life to a home and make it that much more inviting. There are a variety of indoor trees and plants that are low maintenance but look fabulous.

Divider screens for rooms can add some great personality to a room. Choose the ones that have the picture slots to make the house even more homely by giving us some great space to display our loved ones.

Simple things like changing the fixtures on cabinets or even something as little as a shower curtain can help to change the house more towards our own unique style and personality. It is important though to remember to keep the items we change so that we can put them back on before we move.

If you can't paint a wall because of the housing agreement try covering the wall in a bright contrasting fabric. By simply stapling it to the roof and floor you can cover the wall for minimum cost and will only be left with little holes that are easily covered over.

Curtains are another great thing we can change to suit our personal tastes. We can add some great colour and patterns to each and every room to help make it more us. Even just a little fabric framing to an already existent mini blind can help us feel more at home.

Invest in some large pots for the outside, and collect some plants that you like. Many landlords don’t mind if you do something that adds value, so if you are likely to be in your house for a while, consider putting in a vegetable garden, or planting a few fruit trees outside.

Living in someone else's house doesn't mean we cannot make it a home. With a small budget (as most of us renters need) we can create a new, warm home that will truly make us feel at ease and comfortable. Even within the limitations of rental places we can make ourselves the perfectly decorated home.
