I love spending hours and days trawling through antique stores whenever I get a chance, especially in places like Paeroa near Tauranga. I mix my eclectic gems with new ceramics, crockery, utensils and other fabulous affordable finds that I hunt out at stores like The Warehouse .

Working with The Warehouse’s Homewares team allows me to indulge my love of kitchenware and other lovely things that I can use to create a home that reflects my love of life, family and good looking things!

After all, style is all about expressing your personality. This shouldn’t exclude the kitchen so be sure to make your mark on this special room of the house!

If you like a neutral palette, use this as your backbone for all kitchenware. But don’t be afraid to add some flair. If you like brights, then go for it, mix it all up and express your wild side.

The Warehouse has so many gorgeous bright silicone utensils that can help add a little splash of colour easily. Use a lovely jug or colourful container on the kitchen bench to store the utensils you use all the time, that way they are within easy reach.

I find that teatowels also add a dash of colour to your kitchen and are available in so many colours and patterns that they are a lovely way to make a statement. They are useful for drying dishes the old-fashioned way, moving hot pots and dishes around and if you are crafty you can also get creative and use them to make gorgeous cushion covers! The trick to keeping teatowels looking good is to soak them regularly in a good quality fabric detergent and then air dry.

Other great finds at The Warehouse include Harrison and Lane’s colourful casserole dishes or classic stainless steel stockpots from Arcosteel. Not only does slow cooking in a casserole fill your kitchen with delicious aromas that beckon the team to the table, the servingware can be stylish and brighten up your winter too!

When it comes to functionality, there are two kitchen essentials you have to get right – good knives and a great chopping board (or two).  The Warehouse stocks a wide range of top notch Wiltshire knives and boards.  Not only do they look good but they perform really well.  I recommend you check out the Wiltshire knife sets which include a knife for every main purpose (chopping, paring, bread and meat).  Look after them and they’ll look after you.  Wash them by hand to protect the blade.  As for chopping boards – the Wiltshire collection is smart, easy to clean and very good looking!  I have a couple on hand to ensure that I have separate boards for cooked and raw, that way I’m not constantly washing in between tasks.  They are such good value, it’s an easy decision to make.

Tip: If you are giving a knife as a gift make sure the person you give it to pays you a token 10 cents in return.  Legend has it that you’ll ‘sever’ the friendship otherwise!
