Taking pressure off the cook

brevilleresized.jpgWith winter looming it’s time to dust off the slow cooker and start cooking all those delicious wintery meals taken off the menu over summer.

In my mind there’s nothing more perfect than arriving home after a long day at work to a delicious meal all cooked, ready to go. Perfect!

Towards the end of last winter my trusty but very old slow cooker cooked its final meal.  So when the cold snap hit the country last week I headed to my local appliance store to buy myself a new one.

I’ve always been a fan of Breville as a brand so my choice was easy. New to Breville’s range of slow cookers for 2011 is The Fast Slow Cooker which allows me to prepare tasty meals under pressure (literally!) or at a leisurely pace.

I can have tender meat in minutes by using the pressure cook setting or flavour layering up to eight hours using the slow cook setting. I can even sauté vegetables and sear the meat before pressure cooking or slow cooking all in the same cooker – perfect! Less dishes, less fuss!

I also stumbled across this fantastic cook book called The New Zealand Pressure Cooker Cookbook by Lisa Loveday. It’s full of tasty recipes like Saffron Seafood Risotto and Sticky Date and Walnut Pudding with Caramel Sauce - delicious.

So with my fast slow cooker under one arm and my copy of Lisa Loveday’s cookbook under the other I’m sorted. Time to start cooking!

Available at leading appliance retailers nationwide. RRP$299.95
