A mid-winter Christmas party

midwinterxmas.jpgThe weather is turning decidedly bleak so what better reason to celebrate it than by having a Midwinter Christmas party? Any excuse for a party right?

The other day, I heard a radio presenter  say; “Damn it's cold, that’s it, it's time for soup, lamb shanks and casseroles.” So true I thought! But why not get winter started with a bang? Get out the Christmas decorations, brew up some egg nog, and invite your besties round for some yummy food.

DECORATIONS
If you're like me,  you're a sucker for the boxing day 75% off sales on Christmas decorations and end up with a tonne sitting in the shed only to be used once. Well bugger that, they are now going to get another outing! Or you can always get some tinsel from the $2 shop, and if you want to get crafty you could always make some of your own. There are lots of cut price shops that have Christmas decorated paper plates and napkins, so pick your self up some of them and save on the washing up time.

MAIN FARE
You don't have to buy a great big leg of ham, why not try turkey instead? It's half the price and you can find some delicious recipes. Salmon is also a great alternative or accompaniment to the turkey, you can use salmon as a starter,  or go the whole hog and buy large salmon fillets and bake them in tinfoil with some salt and pepper and bit of olive oil. Once cooked,  decorate them with some dill sprinkled across the top on a nice long plate.

DRINKS
Egg nog sounds too complicated to make to me but if you want to try your hand at it you can find a recipe online. Good old champagne spiced up with a bit of sugar round the rim of the glass and a dash of feijoa vodka always warms the cockles of my heart.

Now just add a touch of sparkle and a smattering of good friends and you've got yourself a cracker of a mid winter Christmas party!
