Not Just Another Diet!

weight-watchers.jpgAt this time of year we all tend to overindulge in food and drink due to all the social events that go hand in hand with the Christmas season. It’s great now, but by the time January comes around we will all be  on diets to lose that ‘Christmas bulge’  and will then be regretting those extra roast potatoes we piled on our plate, or the after work drinks we had every night in the build up to Christmas! Well fear not - because Weight Watchers have just launched their latest diet called ‘Pro Points’ and it is easier than ever to follow.

For the benefit of those who are not familiar with Weight Watchers, it is a global slimming group founded by New Yorker Jean Nidetch in 1963. It is a diet plan using a points system, where you are given a points allowance each day  dependent on your current weight, gender , age and how much weight you want to lose and all foods have a certain number of points – you must stick within your allowance and can earn more points from exercise. You typically would have a weigh in once per week at your Weight Watchers meeting. Weight Watchers has helped millions of men and women lose weight and educated them on the importance of healthy eating.

Now for those of you have tried the famous Weight Watchers diet in the past, or know someone who has, then listen carefully to the exciting changes they have made. The calculation of the points is now not based on the amount of kilojoules and saturated fat but instead takes into account the protein content, fibre, carbohydrate and total fat. Recent research has revealed that successful slimming is not simply about counting calories, but about how quickly your body processes different nutrients — and which healthy foods help us to stay feeling satisfied for longer.  You will notice that points of various foods have gone up slightly but so has your daily allowance so it balances out. Here are the main changes who will notice from the previous plan:

Fruits now have a points value of zero so you can eat as much as you want, it won’t be hard eating your five a day!

You cannot carry points over from one day to the next so use them all and don’t let them go to waste, no more hunger pains!

You now get 49 points per week extra to spend however you choose, perfect for that special occasion coming up where you want to over indulge!

So watching those kilos go down on the scales has never been easier!
