An updated translation kit is being rolled out in pharmacies to help patients struggling with English.

The Pharmacy Translation Kit has general and pharmacy-related phrases to help chemist staff communicate more effectively with non-English speakers.

The new edition has added Arabic, French, Spanish and Thai to it languages. It contains more than 80 words and phrases including basic greetings, questions and medical history, and information about different medicines and prescriptions.

Pharmacy Guild President Karen Crisp says it’s an “increasingly relevant communications tool for helping patients”.

“Simple, consistent messages make a big difference to patients’ health. The translation kit makes sure that language barriers are no obstacles to getting the right messages across” she said.
