stomach2resized.jpgPharmacies around the country are banding together to raise money for a cancer appeal.

Some chemists will be accepting donations during June for the first official Bowel Cancer Awareness Week.

The disease claims the lives of 1200 people each year and Alison Ellison, of Beat Bowel Cancer Aotearoa, says many Kiwis are needlessly dying.

“By raising awareness, it’s possible we can reduce the high death rate by encouraging people affected by cancer to act on symptoms to catch the disease early.”

People can make a donation with their in-store purchase at any Amcal, Care Chemist, Life, Radius and Unichem pharmacy.

The awareness week runs from June 12, 2011. For more details or to donate, visit www.beatbowelcancer.org.nz
