julia-blog.jpgWeek One:  So there’s no doubt about it, winter is here in full force. Along with the freezing cold nights and rainy days, that means an abundance of rich foods, heavy meals and a few extra nights at home in front of the TV. The ‘winter coat’ is creeping on fast and its feeling more than a little bit comfortable.

With a couple of months of heady winter indulgence already under my belt, I’ve come to the arduous decision that something must be done. That ‘something’ being exercise and activity. Anything relating to which, has been kept comfortably out-of-mind since early autumn. It’s time to drag myself off the couch, get motivated
and get active!

On my mission of fitness and health, I’ll be taking an equally sorry and unfit friend along for the ride (Gloss editor Natalie). Moral support is a must, and safety in knowing that neither of us can slack off and leave the other, is most important.

Of the pair of us, I am a member (sporadic at best) of the local gym, so I’ve signed us up for the ‘Six Week Take off Challenge.’ The package promises to whip us into shape, with a combination of group training, one on one sessions with a trainer and some self directed workouts or classes.

The programme’s somewhat amusing catchphrase is ‘friends don’t let friends get cankles,’ and while neither of us (thankfully) is suffering from this particular affliction, we are hoping to see some visible results in other areas. Our goals will be to tone up, increase (basically non-existant) fitness, gain some healthy motivation, and lose that ‘winter coat’.

So with the excitement of our new regime looming, we’ll have one more relaxing weekend, before the cankle-destroying-exercise (and hilarity) ensues.
