You've heard it before - it's the "cost per wear" you're aiming for.  That slightly ill-fitting top hanging unworn in your wardrobe with the sale tag on it, has actually cost you much more than the full price jacket you've worn time after time.  Here are the golden rules of sale shopping:

  • Never buy something just because it's cheap.
  • Watch the papers and check out online sale listings like the Sale Directory at www.fashionz.co.nz to make sure your know when your favourite store is having a sale. Then, make a point of being there early.
  • Know what you need/want before you go shopping.
  • Best buys are trans-seasonal garments - that is the colour, and weight are useful right through the year. You just add or shed layers depending on the weather.
  • Look for classic garments that will take you through many seasons.
  • Make a careful analysis of the garment before you buy:  will it take you into the next season or will it be outdated as soon as you have bought it?  Does it fit well? Don't be tempted to believe that you will lose that extra pound.  Will it work in your wardrobe? And most important... will you get lots of wear out of it?
  • Finally, have fun- sale time is a chance to be a bit daring, to break a few rules.  Try a new colour, or a new look - if you're going to make a mistake, at least it won't too expensive at sale time!
