designer-garage-sale.jpgThe ever-popular Designer Garage Sale is back at New Zealand Fashion Festival 2011, with more than 30 top designers offering their best end-of-summer garments at dramatically reduced prices.

The Designer Garage Sale is a fun day out and a great chance to pick up some great bargains on your favourite designers’ summer collections. Already booked and planning their sales are Andrea Moore, Ben Sherman, BLAK, Brady, Chalkboard Agencies, Chaos & Harmony, Cybele, Dmonic Intent, Doosh, Federation, Gregory, Kagi , Kathryn Wilson, Kingan-Jones, Louche, Matchi Motchi, Mena, Michelle Yvette, Neverblack, Ricochet, Riddle Me This, RJC, Sabatini, Sable & Minx, Sarah Riley Designer Shoes, Starfish, State of Grace, Stolen Girlfriends Club, tkstore, Trix & Dandy by Michael Pattison, and WeSC.

The FashioNZ team caught up with Designer Garage Sale organiser Jill Blomfield and got her to let us in on what we can expect from this year’s sale!

How did the Designer Garage Sale start out?

We saw how well the sale worked in London as part of London Fashion Weekend and thought why not bring the idea to New Zealand. Our very first sale in 2006 had only 17 designers, some of whom like Sherilyn from State of Grace have participated in every one of our sales.

We were all very nervous to see how the concept would go in NZ and I remember the delight and relief for all of our staff and designers when we looked outside to see a queue of people forming for our very first sale!

Who are the designers who will be on sale?
We have a wonderfully diverse mix of designers in the sale something for everyone for updates go to wwwdesignergaragesale.co.nz   So far we have…..
Andrea Moore, Ben Sherman, BLAK, Chalkboard Agencies, Chaos & Harmony, Dmonic Intent, Federation, Kagi, Kathryn Wilson, Louche, Mena, Michelle Yvette, Neverblack, Ricochet, Riddle Me This, Sabatini, State of Grace, Stolen Girlfriends Club, TK Store, Trix & Dandy by Michael Pattison, Doosh, Sable & Minx, Brady

What will be on sale – just clothing, or footwear and accessories as well?
Yes we will the full range from fabulous footwear (every girl’s dream) Kathryn Wilson and Chaos & Harmony,  Jewellery by Kagi,  great knitwear by Sabatini, menswear by Ben Sherman, the list goes on…

What kind of savings can people expect to get at the sale?
Most garments are around 70% or less than in store RRP’s. On our website we have what we call our ‘sneak peeks’ this gives some wonderful examples of the bargains you can expect to pick up at the sale.

A huge amount of work must go into organising an event like this – how has it been organising the March event?
The sales are always fun to organise a bit of a logistical nightmare at times but still fun especially when you see some of the sneak peeks coming through. My only problem is I am generally too busy working to get the best bargains. On the day we usually start at around 5am and have it all built and ready to go right on opening time, organised chaos but so rewarding!

Any other tips or information about the Designer Garage Sale our readers should know?
