Kiwi vocalist and songwriter, Rachel Fraser is no stranger to the NZ music scene having toured and collaborated with some of the country’s top artists.

But it’s the collaboration with fellow Kiwi musician Isaac Aesili, which has seen the birth of Funkcommunity and their debut album Chequered Thoughts.

Rahcel’s voice is reminiscent of old school jazz, soul and funk styles infused with contemporary R&B.

A lady of many credentials, she first gained international attention with Recloose track, 'Catch a Leaf', and has since been busy performing with bands such as Sola Rosa and Recloose Live.

So what do you think Rachel would carry around in her handbag? Let’s find out…

Do you prefer a small or large bag?
It really depends on the occasion.

For the daily mission, I use a bigger bag that will hold everything from my wallet, phone and laptop chargers, make-up, note books, pens, moisturisers….the list goes on! This is why a large bag with a strong shoulder strap is important.

Then there is the medium sized bag like the one I’m using today which I use for ‘off days’ when I can catch up with friends and do sunny day sorts of things.

Lastly, there’s the smaller bag used for nights out that hold basics like wallet, phone, lippy etc.

Do you have a favourite style of bag?

I like simple, strong, leather bags in bold colours. I also like the kete I have today, which my sister Melanie Fraser made. She makes lots of them in different colours and patterns but again, I like the simple style and bold colour of the one I have today.

Do you have a favourite label or designer?
It would have to be my sister!

What cant you leave home without?
I can’t leave home without my wallet and phone.

What don't you need?
Everything that I pack in my bag has a reason for being there. But I will admit sometimes I may be a little over prepared. I don’t have it with me today, but sometimes I carry around a little sewing kit to my daily mission bag. You just never know, it might come in handy.

What has been the most embarrassing thing to fall out of your bag?
Embarrassing old school photos! I was trying to hide the photos in my bag to save the embarrassment of people seeing my lovely bleached blonde hair that looked orange rather that blonde with two long fringe strands and a bun, white eye shadow and super cheesy grin. Very embarrassing!
