Gloss handbag snoop, Emma Smith caught up with indie electro soul singer, Fantine recently, as she embarked on her first headline tour promoting her second single Eleven.

Fantine was born in Moscow to a Russian father and a Dominican mother. Her youth was spent living in Russia, the Dominican Republic and Australia.

She is a unique talent, with a musical style which reflects her cultural diversity.

Her music is described as a fusion of indie and electro soul. Through her music she hopes to connect in some way to everybody who listens to it.

Fantine uses her passion for writing music as an outlet for self-expression and places great emphasis on the lyrics she writes.

So what does she carry in around in her handbag while on tour? Lets find out…..

Do you prefer a small or large bag?
Small! The smaller the better, just something that'll fit the phone, wallet and keys.

Do you have a favourite style of bag?
Small bags, with a long strap that goes over the shoulder. Preferably a simple design, with some interesting lining. I'm a sucker for funky lining. My current bag is not a good example though.

Do you have a favourite label or designer?
Not really. The one I've got today is an Alexander Wang. I really like it, so I travel a lot with it. Though I wish the straps were a tiny bit shorter.

What can’t you leave home without?
Apart from the PWK (Phone/Wallet/Keys)? Paw paw ointment! I carry it with me all the time.

What don’t you need?
I'm a minimalist packer. Right now my bag has more than it normally would, because I decided I'd bring my makeup case and brushes set, just in case. I can't believe it all fit in here, but probably the thing I need the least at the moment are my house and car keys? Oh and the suitcase luggage lock. I used it in the UK when I was there last time, because I got pick pocketed!  It's totally unnecessary here in New Zealand.

What has been the most embarrassing thing to fall out of your bag?
You'd think it would be something along the lines of female hygiene products, but no. It was a plastic bottle of honey mustard. I really liked that particular sauce with chips and for about a week I had it in my bag. People probably thought I was crazy.
