Imagine you have been a stay at home mum for years. One day your husband goes to work and is involved in a tragic car accident never to return home. Suddenly you find yourself not only having to cope with the trauma of his passing, but being a solo mum of three needing to support your children. Problem is you haven’t worked in years. You don’t even have a single outfit in your wardrobe that can get you through the door of an interview, but you don’t have a choice.

These are the sorts of stories that the people at Dress For Success hear daily. Dress For Success was established in New York City in 1997 to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women as they enter or return to the workforce by providing them with the right clothing to get their foot in the door at a job.

Since 1997, Dress for Success has served almost 450,000 women around the world. Each year they assist more than 40,000 women in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and the Netherlands.

By supporting Dress For Success you can put a little colour in another woman’s life, because nobody ever gets a second chance to make a first impression!

How Dress For Success Works

Dress For Success provides each woman with a business suit when she has a job interview. When she lands that job, she returns to Dress For Success for up to one week’s worth of business separates.

While Dress For Success is best known for providing suits to women, they also have employment retention programmes that are the cornerstone of the organisation. As part of this, Dress For Success offers ongoing support for women building their career.

With ‘Suits to self sufficiency’ and Dress For Success you can help dress a woman and change their future.

Are you on board to support? Giving a little is easy, here’s how…

We all have things in our wardrobe that no longer fit us, colours don’t suit us, or something our grandma bought us that is just not what we would wear.

Go through your wardrobe and have a good spring clean. If you're not sure where to start, read this article on clearing your closet clutter.
Get your girlfriends to do the same.
Wash all the items that you don’t want to keep.
Now take a look through them… Ask yourself:
  • Would they be useful for a woman needing to wear them to a job interview?
  • Are they smart?
  • Are they tidy and in good condition?
  • Would you lend them to your best friend to where to a job interview?

Once you have ticked those boxes you are now ready to help women in need.

Dress For Success needs suits, shirts, skirts, jewellery, handbags, shoes/boots, undergarments and new makeup. All clothing needs to be smart and appropriate work attire.

Bring at least five items of clothing to the Girls Day Out event and get $2 off your ticket price AND do your bit for a community of women who just need a little helping hand to change their future. Get your friends to do the same and join the Dress For Success mission.
