muse-article.jpgMuse, Dimmer, Madonna, Mika, Pixie Lott, Little Boots, The Herbalizer and newcomer Lisa Mitchell all have new albums in store this month… Muse – The Resistance
Ahh Muse – the band that seems to divide people into either love or loathe. If you do loathe them, don’t dare mention it to a fan, because they’ll have your guts for garters. This album however, seems to have even some of the fans confused. It’s progressive pop/space/rock at its wildest, and sometimes it’s sheer genius, but - dare I say it, it’s not always good. Die-hand fans will be singing the praises of this album however.
For fans of: Muse - who else!?

dimmer100.jpgDimmer – Degrees of Existence
As an old fan of Shane Carter’s and his work in Straitjacket Fits, I was really looking forward to this album and it does not disappoint – it’s intense, moody, deep and at times quite ethereal. You can crank it or you can enjoy it quietly in the background. Carter fans will get goosebumps.

mika.jpgMika – The Boy Who Knew Too Much
Slightly slower and more jazzy than his first album but just as much joyful fun… Combing a voice that is best described as the male version of Mariah Carey with his child-like sense of humour and story telling, Mika fans will not be left disappointed.
For fans of: Michael Jackson

pixie_lott.jpgPixie Lott – Turn It Up
English starlet Pixie Lott's debut album is pure, unadulterated sassy teen-pop. Bouncy, catchy and simple music made all the better by a deceptively powerful voice.
For fans of: Lady GaGa, Little Boots

little_boots.jpgLittle Boots – Hands
Blackpool native Victoria Hesketh is Little Boots and this is her debut album. What started as a bit of fun (recording 'funtimes' covers in her pajamas) eventually led to homepage exposure on YouTube, racking up more than 250,000 views overnight. The songs are mostly upbeat and catchy, my personal favourite being ‘Stuck on Repeat’ as it’s an amazing pop song without trying to be. Little boots has a sound very similar to that of Kylie Minogue and her ‘Fever’ days mixed with ‘Steps’ the British pop group. I think the album is brilliant, it’s full of self-realisation but isn’t perfect, and perfect is over rated anyway. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
For fans of Kylie

the-herbaliser-band.jpgThe Herbaliser Band – Session 2
West London DJ/producers Jake Wherry and Ollie Teeba, aka The Herbaliser, release a collection of their previous compositions re-imagined and re-recorded with their full touring band. This is classy funk – perfect for summer soirees and low-key catchups with friends. Very retro cool.

lisa-mitchell.jpgLisa Mitchell
This is the debut album from the 19 year old singer/songwriter who has massive potential for popularity. Lisa Mitchell participated in Australian Idol at the tender age of 16. This album is catchy – her delicate sensibility is completely endearing and lyrically her album is fun. I love her quirky melodies and gentle musical sensibility. It’s like fairy music. Love – she is definitely one to watch!

celebration_2cd_cover_final.jpgMadonna's 'Celebration' CD
All the classics digitally remastered for your pleasure.  And what a pleasure it was on my 45 minute drive home from work.  I had forgotten how great Madonna’s early songs actually were - give me ‘80s pop over today’s poor excuse for music any day.
The sound quality was absolutely superb. I have to say I did prefer disc one over disc two but perhaps that’s because disc one contained more of the songs that launched me back to my glorious late teenage years fuelled with dancing ,drinking and just having a bloody good time, which in my opinion is what Madge’s early tracks inspired – having a good time.
