domestic-goddess.jpgDomestic Goddess on a Budget – Wendyl Nissen
Synopsis: Domestic Goddess on a Budget is a user-friendly guide for making money-saving changes in your life to become more natural, sustainable and healthy. Wendyl brings an entertaining and informative approach to greening up everyday activities, from cleaning your house with her natural cleaning recipes, to eating out of your own organic garden and having a go, little by little, step by step at introducing some of the things our grandparents did every day of their lives.

I nearly fell off my chair when I saw this. I thought I was the only editor that budgets and cleans my house (and my face) with good ‘ole baking soda. Apparently not! Ex magazine ed and media personality Wendyl Nissen hits the recessionista/eco nail on the head with this fabulous little book. It has tips galore and is a must-read for budgeters and environmentalists alike.

shoe-princess.jpgThe Shoe Princess’s Guide to the Galaxy – Emma Bowd
Synopsis: Overwhelmed by the realities of first-time motherhood and disillusioned with the corporate world, Jane trades in her Manolos for nappies, nipple shields and the foot spread of a yeti: a lifestyle choice her man-eating girlfriend, Rachel, thinks is taking retro chic just one step too far. Unlike the lovely Liz, who'd give anything to be in Jane's pram shoes.

An interesting book with too many useless bits of information for my taste; however the other bits that weren’t useless were good.  The storyline was a little confusing just when you thought you had it all figured out turn the page and you were wrong – can’t say anymore on that else I’ll ruin it for you. Suffice to say I would give this book to my best friend for a birthday present and know that I’d still get a good one from her on my next birthday.

the-element.jpgThe Element How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything – Ken Robinson
Synopsis: ‘The element’ is the point at which natural talent meets personal passion. This groundbreaking new book is all about how every one of us can find our element, connecting with our true talents and fulfilling our creative potential.

The Element is an uplifting and inspiring book – and I agree with the author’s main point – you have to find your calling in life. There are loads of celebrity stories in here – such as Paul McCartney and Elvis both being denied from their choir auditions. Only problem with the book is that it is long winded, but if you love to hear success stories and need some inspiration, this is a great read!

three-cups-of-tea.jpgThree Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace... One School at a Time – Greg Mortenson
Synopsis: One day in 1993, high up in the world's most inhospitable mountains, Greg Mortenson wandered lost and alone, broken in body and spirit, after a failed attempt to climb K2, the world's deadliest peak. When the people of an impoverished village in Pakistan's Karakoram Himalaya took him in and nursed him back to health, Mortenson made an impulsive promise: He would return one day and build them a school. Although he was a homeless "climbing bum" living out of his aging Buick in Berkeley, California, Mortenson sold what few possessions he had to launch one of the most remarkable humanitarian campaigns of our time. Three Cups of Tea traces Mortenson's decade-long odyssey to build schools, especially for girls, throughout the region that gave birth to the Taliban and sanctuary to Al Qaeda.

This book is so inspiring and has such an important message about tolerance, peace, and how some amazing dedication can have wonderful results. A must read. Buy it today!
