Capturing pulse of our game

With Rugby World Cup fever taking over much of the country, Our Game is a timely reminder that the sport exists away from large stadiums and expensive jerseys.

It’s at the grass roots level, far from television cameras and corporate boxes, where our nation’s heroes first develop their passion for the game – and it’s these grass roots moments that Our Game celebrates.

Arno Gasteiger’s striking photography captures the stunning landscape of the game as it’s played at countless clubs across the country with enviable backdrops.  It captures the spirit of the people – players, parents, supporters – for many of whom rugby is much more than a game.

Humorous commentary from award-winning sports journalist Peter Malcouronne delves into everything, from Ponsonby-Kelston’s under-12 Auckland championships win to the origin of rugby in New Zealand, memories of test matches, controversy, discussions with rugby greats and about greats.

From schoolboy rugby to the art of spectating, rugby as part of our national identity and the landscapes in which the game is played, this is New Zealand rugby as it  has never been seen before.
