love_aubrey.jpgLove Aubrey – Suzanne LaFleur
Synopsis: Love Aubrey is an uplifting story about grief, family and friendship. She will make you cry, make you smile and put simply, Aubrey will stay with you forever.

Never was a truer word spoken.  I was barely into the first chapter and I had already gone through half a box of tissues.  It’s not that you can’t guess what has happened in Aubrey’s life but the fact that you can feel her pain on every single page.  After the initial box of tissues had run out the story does have happy bits of that I am grateful for! Suzanne LaFleur is a wonderful writer that can provoke responses I previously havent had with any other book.

onethatgotaway.jpgThe One That Got Away – Jessica Fox
Synopsis: The One That Got Away is the first novel in a new series called The Hen Night Prophecies, following the fortunes of five different girls, each given their own puzzling prophecy at a friend's hen night...Zoe Piper adores her four best friends - Fern, Libby, Charlotte and Priya.  So is thrilled when they can all make it to her hen night, where one of the girls arranges for a tarot-card reader to give them a reading individually. Afterwards, each one stumbles out a little dazed, perplexed by how spookily accurate the reader was, but each one keeps quiet about their own readings. In each of the five volumes of The Hen Night Prophecies we learn how their prophecies come true.  This first book follows the fortunes of Fern, who is told that she has already met The One, but let him go!

I must have one of these Psychic parties! Fern is a funny character and I think quite a few of us will know exactly where she is coming from; there is just no way I’d be able to let it go if a psychic told me my one true love has already been kicked to the kerb by me I’d be in a panic to narrow down which one it was stat! A nice short read for a week night when there’s nothing on TV or your husband has taken over with his Battlestar Gallactica re-runs – I’ll be lining up for the next release to see what happens to the other girls in Fern’s life.

othersideofthestars.jpgThe Other Side of The Stars – Clemency Burton-Hill
Synopsis: Actress Lara Latner is enjoying a golden summer - her new play is the toast of London's West End, and she and her boyfriend Alex are setting up their first home together. But when her agent calls with an extraordinary opportunity - her potential break into Hollywood - she is plunged into turmoil. For the part, the lead in an American remake of a classic French film, is the role that made her mother, tragic actress Eve Lacloche, a legend. Lara does not know what to do. How can she bear to leave Alex, and their precious home for the months of the shoot? How can she ever hope to measure up to Eve's luminous performance? But perhaps it is only by stepping into her mother's shadow that Lara can hope to truly understand her, and to lay the past to rest.

Actress, journalist and now author, Clemency Burton-Hill is clearly multi-talented. This book is a wonderful debut, well-written and an engrossing read that is not too fluffy but not too challenging.
