A couple of weeks ago I admitted to being hopelessly disorganised when
it comes buying Christmas presents for my family and friends.
Every Christmas morning as I’m frantically wrapping the presents I’ve purchased the night before, I promise myself that next year it will be a whole different story! Unfortunately, this promise has been broken more times than I’d like to admit.
Thankfully, some of you heard my cry for help and I’ve been inundated with emails offering helpful suggestions, so thank you!
For those of you who’ve asked me to share my findings, I’ve compiled a few helpful suggestions to make the whole Christmas shopping a more enjoyable experience.
Make a list
Write down everyone you need to buy presents for and keep it somewhere safe, away from prying eyes. Next to each persons name make a note of what you are going to buy them and once you’ve found each gift cross off their names.
Shop throughout the year
There are no rules to say that buying gifts has to take place leading up to the big event. If you see a great present for someone and its March, buy it and pop it away in the cupboard. Retailers are often holding sales throughout the year and this it’s the perfect opportunity to save a bit of cash.
Shop online
To avoid the crowds, try shopping online. You won’t have to worry about finding a park when you’re sitting in the comfort of your home either. Just make sure you are buying from a well known and secure site.
Don’t be shy to ask
To avoid disappointment, ask who ever you are buying for what they’d like. It does take the excitement and the element of surprise out of the whole experience but at least you know what the person really wants or needs. This suggestion won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but for people who are a little more ‘difficult’ to buy for, it’s perfect!
And finally, if there is one small piece of advice I can offer you all it’s this. Have fun, and enjoy yourselves. Don’t stress out, just make a plan and stick to it. Christmas is about spending time with family and friends after all!
