Valentine’s Day and its prolonged build-up can be a tough time of year for singles whether they’re looking for love or are bitter over a recent breakup.

Come February 14, most singles will steer clear of restaurants and bars, but Luke Dallow’s Federal Street venue Red Hummingbird in Auckland has been declared a ‘safe zone’ for those who haven’t found their true love.

Red Hummingbird is running its first annual ‘Singles’ Awareness Day’ in a bid to help others discover love, or at the very least, help get over an ex.

Singles are encouraged to bring in a photo of their ex to the bar on Valentine’s Day. Staff will shred the photo while the erstwhile lover enjoys a complimentary Valentine’s cocktail.

And if the tragically spurned finds love at Hummingbird that night, they will be entered in a draw to win a mystery trip for two with Air NZ.

All-in-all, a brilliant nod in the direction of the day that celebrates love!
