fake-tanning.jpgFake tanning isn’t just about slapping on tanning lotion, rubbing it in and hoping you look somewhere between Gisele and Jennifer! To achieve a flawless tan there’s a whole lot of do’s, don’ts and definitely-need-to-knows to ensure you get the perfect tan.

Before you tan, DIY or salon:
Always do a patch test prior to use, especially if you have never used self tanning products before or if you have sensitive skin.
Do not use any other self tanning products at least one week prior to application, even if you’re tempted to top-up.
Do not wax or shave at least 24 hours prior to treatment.
Exfoliate well prior to application paying particular attention to the elbows, knees and heels and ensure you have no open cuts, wounds or grazes.
Immediately after a spray tan:
Wear loose clothing and allow a few minutes for the tan to absorb before dressing.
Keep skin completely dry; avoid water contact, and moisturising products during tan development.
Allow tan to develop for at least six to eight hours or even better, overnight.
Try not to sweat aka no physical activity.

After your tan has developed:
Rinse off any remaining colour in the shower. Once the water runs clear, gently wash with a mild soap.
Avoid products that contain Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA’s) as they can strip colour.
Be aware that chlorine can fade your tan.

Product Love:
St. Tropez Bronzing Spray RRP: $69.99 is a paraben free super-fine self tan spray that delivers an ultra-even all-over bronze. Infused with conditioning aloe vera and long-lasting colour, you’ll have a perfectly natural looking tan in an instant. St. Tropez’s exclusive Aromaguard™ technology eliminates the tell-tale self tan aroma by at least 70% and replaces it with a refreshing fragrance of iris, fruits and violets.

To use: After exfoliating and moisturising dry areas (hands, elbows, knees, ankles and feet), hold St. Tropez Bronzing Spray 6” away from your skin and spray liberally all over. Using a flat hand and a light stroke make sure all your skin is covered. Wait until you’re touch-dry before getting dressed. Try not to get wet, or sweat, for at least four hours then shower off to reveal a luxurious, natural looking tan.

Best Self Tanner in the WORLD
Written by Anna Praus, on 06-01-2011 01:57
The best self tanner I have ever used (and still do to this day) is called "Famous Dave's" for several reasons - It does not stink, goes on white, and does not stain your clothing. I have not found anything better...anywhere.
