skin-care-gloss-resized.jpgTrained beauty therapist Emma Harris, is frequently asked by clients if they have to use beauty products from the same range to achieve optimum results. What's the verdict? Let’s find out…

You might think as a professional beauty therapist I would use only one range when it comes to my skin care, right?  Wrong!

My skin care at home is a real mixture of products. I use a cleanser and toner from one range, an exfoliant from another, and yes you guessed it, a selection of different moisturisers.

Like so many of you, I too get caught up in buying the latest product on the market. I love trying new things and there’s really nothing wrong with using a mixture of brands.

However, if I were a client confessing all my beauty sins, my beauty therapist should ask me if I’m getting the results needed to treat my concerns and or conditions. From my own experience, the answer to this question more often than not is “I hadn't noticed any difference.”

The next step a professional would do is a full consultation. This may seem tedious at the time but it gives your therapist a clear idea of what you’re putting on your face and what you think YOU need. It will determine the best treatment programme including products to help work on the condition and concerns you have for YOUR skin.

The other concern with using different ranges is a clash of different ingredients. Can mixing up brands upset the final outcome you’re trying to achieve?

Professional product lines which are only available from a salon, and not your local pharmacy or department store have concentrated ingredients. They are made scientifically in a lab and meant to recognise each other and work together for the full optimum results.

At the end of the day, it’s your choice, there’s no right or wrong – it’s totally up to you and your budget!
